Katie licked that rib clean! |
Atmosphere: LJ's is a quaint restaurant in a shopping plaza in Pawtucket,RI. Rhode Island is obviously not known for it's BBQ and there aren't many joints that are not not part of a chain. Some great finishing touches in this place make it seem like an authentic BBQ joint. There are no napkins.Just a roll of paper towel on each table top. Toby and I loved that. You also get a lemon scented bowl for cleaning your fingers.Nice touch LJ's.
Staff :The waitress we had at LJ's was so great. She chatted with us about reality TV and was very witty. She was more like a cool grandma that you would want to hang out with all the time because she let you do things your parents wouldn't. She was pretty knowledgeable about BBQ also. She said they start smoking the meat for at least 18 hours the night before and all the sides are freshly made. If you look on the walls around your tale you will see all of the accolades LJ's has received in BBQ Contests in the past.
Food: This was our second time eating at LJ's BBQ and this time was just as delicious as the first. We took Katie Pace and Harold on this journey to flavor town (mind the Guy Fieri reference.) I think beer goes perfectly with BBQ and LJ's has a great selection. They also have a yummy drink list including a cucumber/pickle martini and firefly sweet tea vodka and lemonade.
The menu at LJ's is HUGE and there is somthing for everyone. Fried fish,BBQ chicken, huge sandwiches etc. We started out with the bourbon wings, which Toby and I tried last time. They were his favorite part of the meal so it was a no brainer to try them again. These wings were super sticky and sweet. My guess is that there was honey in this glaze. Harold commented that mopping up the extra sauce with their amazing cornbread would be a great idea.
One Word- YUM |
For our main courses the boys decided on baby back ribs and the girls decided on St Louis style pork ribs. Everyone agreed their ribs were amazing. There is BBQ sauce on each table to add since the ribs are not very saucy, which is good for people that like dry ribs. People who like to mop up sauce go for it! Everyone gets cornbread with their meal and trust me-this is something you wouldn't want to miss. Toby actually decided to get cornbread as one of his sides since he could not get enough of it. Each meal gets two sides and all seem amazing. I went with the old reliable macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes and gravy. Both of these sides were delicious. The mac and cheese was individually packaged in a cheesy, gooey masterpiece. The mashed potatoes were equally as delicious. They were creamy and the gravy was thick and was perfect when mopped up with corn bread.

Thanks Leanne! I so miss those Bourbon wings and now I have a picture to drool over! LJ's is great - even by the South's (Atlanta is my new home) standards.
ReplyDeleteI voted in your poll- but what you really need to try is as much cheese as humanly possible, with fresh baguettes and good (and crazy cheap) French red wine. Bon Chance!
Oh man! Those are my husband's new obsession. They are so great. I will totally eat lots of bread, cheese and wine. Those are probably my three favorite foods lol.
