Outside the Kitchen: NYC Foodie Adventure

I am back from my foodie adventure in NYC! And what a great time we had! In case you have not seen my eight million excited tweets, my friends Jen, Darci, and myself went to NYC to be in the studio audience for the ABC Talk show The Chew. More to come in another post about that. It deserves it's own post! Anyway, so for WIAW this week, I wanted to show you all of the amazing foods we ate in our eating extravaganza tour of NYC.

We started our eating extravaganza at 230 Fifth, which has an amazing rooftop bar. The sun was peaking from the clouds and it felt like I was in the tropics! There were palm trees and stuffed parrots, but not in a cheesy way. It was basically an amazing hideaway from the hustle and bustle of NYC. I had a pear martini, which was divine. Just as I was finishing the last bit of amazingness it started pouring!

We had to think quickly, so Jen navigated us to Rosa Mexicano. We happened to catch it at happy hour ( on a Sunday????) so we cashed in and had the most amazing table side guacamole, which was super chunky and delicious. Their margaritas were amazing. And for $6 in NYC I would have had ten.

After margaritas and about 4 avocado's each worth of guacamole we went to dinner at the most amazing tapas bar. Pipa was right around the corner from Rosa Mexicano and wow was this place lively for a Sunday night! They had a band and patrons were dancing in between tables. It made me want to dance! We ordered a slew of appetizers for the four of us. That is what I would suggest. There are so many different types of tapas so we picked quite a variety.

This was half of what we ordered. Literally this was one of my best meals of my life.Starting from the left, we got truffled mushroom croquettes ( mashed potato balls with truffles and mushrooms), the most amazing grilled squid, a cheese plate, and bacon wrapped dates. We also got amazing flat breads with steak with chimmichuri. Might I add, their sangria was amazing.Have I said amazing enough yet?

We ended the night with a "night cap" at Lillie's, which was a beautiful bar with a huge bar area and Victorian decor. We had amazing champagne cocktails  with citron vodka and lemon peel. How refreshing!

We ended up getting back to the hotel at 1am and we had to get up at 6:30 am the next morning for The Chew. Yikes. At least we went to bed full.

  3. Woman, I don't know how you were able to stand after all these drinks! I do love living here because of this kind of stuff (rather than the crowds and the noise). Brian and I love to go out for tapas and be able to order a variety of things so I'm totally with you on that. Glad you had a great time.

  5. Lol Anita! It was in like 10 hours but yes. We may have been a bit tipsy by the end. The tapas bar was amazing. I wish I could go every week! Good thing RI isn't that far away!
